Today the 27/04/2010 the PM officially shoved the environment on the backburner. So in the words of KRudd himself that ”Climate Change is the greatest financial and moral challenge of our time!” must now be regarded as unimpotant. This announcement really just how shallow the man is. Instead of saying our current plan is not feasable and going with an alternative that the public can be weaned on to he just goes “stuff it”!
Many Australians (particularly those who gave him Green preferences) can well and truely feel cheated. Lets have a close look at what he has done so far since coming to power.
1. He signed Kyoto. Sounds good doesn’t it? Well the truth is that the policies of the HOWARD government had already got us in a position to meeting our Kyoto commitments without us actually signing up to it and now with the GFC we are going to meet them easily. So other than signing a non binding agreement there’s not much here to crow about.
2. Solar panels for homes. This scheme was set $8000 for a 1KW installation in May 2007 by the Howard government. This scheme was shut down by KRudd on June 9th 2009.
3. Solar panel for schools. In 2008 KRudd anounced a $50,000 grant from July 2008 for every school in Australia to get a solar power system until 2015. In October 2009 he cancelled (claims only suspended) the National Solar Schools Program. Now did he introduce this program. NO actually. He replaced the Howard governments Green Voucher program that was funded within the last Howard government budget. Amazingly another Howard government environmental program renamed and packaged as his and then closed down.
4. Low Emissions Technology Demonstration Fund. Introduced and funded by the Howard government in 2006 to get greenfield projects off and running with $500million has seen KRudd cancel this “planning and preparing for the future” program. Howard had committed to a further $500million in 2010. Another blow to the future.
5. Incandescent Light Bulbs. In 2007 Howard phased in a banning of incandesent light bulbs a relic of the 1890′s. Most light bulbs until then were incandesent. This is one of the largest greenhouse reductions made in one quick, effecient and cost effective moves in Australia. The saving is equal to 500,000 being taken off the road permanetly. KRudd is now trying to label it as his plan. He is getting desperate.
6. Solar Hot Water rebate. Cancelled by KRudd and co Feb 2010.
Really. People who thought KRudd was more pro the environment than Howard do need to wake up and Bob Brown (No grey matter there) needs to face a very serious fact. the guy you backed is a fraud.
His record on the environment (air that is – we will get to the shambles on water later) is so poor it does not even get a ranking. If your sole reason for supporting Rudd was the environment then I’m sorry to say you have backed a dud in KRudd.
