Today, April 22/4/2010 the KRudd government very quietly broke yet another major election pledge (now 26). 260 childcare centres in schools across the nation has become just 38.
Childcare Minister Kay Ellis stated “The evidence tells us that an injection of more centres could threaten the viability of existing services and cause disruption for Australian families, just as the market is settling after the collapse of ABC Learning.” Garbage!
Kevin Rudd campaigned hard during the 2007 election appealing to parents who spent large amounts of their time each day travelling to drop off children of different ages at schools and childcare centres. Suddenly people no longer have this problem even though we have have a child boom over the last 7 years and fuel prices have both sky rocketed. Obviously easing the squeeze on families is once again thrown out the window by the PM.
There is no doubt that the government has lost total control of what it is doing and you can be sure that any promise he makes in the upcoming election campaign is words and little more. So no matter who you are – whether you make $500 or $3,000 a week, single, part of a couple, married with children or just plain old different you are a target. No one has escaped so far and it is likely most of you will be in for a further round of shocks.
- UPDATE APRIL 28th -
It was revealed to day that one of the major backflip on this election promise – ANOTHER big blowout – just a mere $500million
